Padua, the city of the second oldest university of Italy, the city where the first woman received an academic degree, where Galileo Galilei lived and taught, the city avant-garde of medicine and were the first heart transplant of the world has been done.
With this tour ‘’Padua, the city of science’’, we’ll discover Padua and its scientific side. We’ll visit first the Anatomic Theatre, where the first anatomic dissections have been done for the study of Anatomy at the ancient faculty of medicine. Then we’ll walk in the portico of Palazzo del Bo, historic headquarter of the University of Padova, threw which its columns many illustrious people at the age of students walked.
We continue our tour choosing between a visit of the Botanic Garden or of the Museum of Medicine, MUSME.
The Botanic Garden of Padua since 1545 hosts very different plants and herbs from all over the world and today is the most ancient University Botanic Garden in the world.
MUSME, the Museum of History of Medicine is located in the ancient city hospital, under the porticos of Via San Francesco. We’ll see a new, modern, and interactive museum of Medicine and we’ll learn about the historical relation of this science with the city. This new project, inaugurated in 2015 explains the story of medicine from its origins until today.
