Six days between Venice, Ferrara, Padua, Prosecco, Soave and Verona
1st Day – Arrival at the Hotel
Pick up at the airport and arrival at the thermal 4* hotel in Abano Montegrotto Terme (Padua). Free time for relax.
2nd Day – Venice
Accompanied by the Local Tour Leader, you’ll reach Venice by train. Discover this famous city, Visit the original Venice, the Venice of the venetians, with a walk through Calli, Campielli, ancient and colourful palaces and romantic boutiques. Listen to the gondoliers talking in venetian language, notice how the life of the venetian goes on in this unique city, be fascinated by the atmosphere. Discover all the little bus significant aspects of the masterpiece-city until the most important monument: the Basilica of San Marco.
3rd Day – Ferrara and Monselice
Accompanied by the Local Tour Leader you’ll reach Ferrara by train. You’ll visit the city and the majestic Castello Estense, monument and symbol surrounded by a big defensive moat. You’ll have walk through the history of the city by walking from Torre dei Leoni, ancient tower of sighting built in XIII century and inserted in the city walls, to the renaissance époque where the princely residence was embellished with the famous “Camerini Dorati”, prestigious, rich and famous in all Europe art collection of the Estensi family.
You’ll continue your walk along Corso Martiri della Libertà to the Cathedral of San Giorgio, with its magnificent façade with a particular structure, three pinnacles. The cathedral was built first in Romanesque style and after in gothic style and represent the Last Judgement carved on the central loggia.
In the end you will see the Palazzo Ducale, today the Municipality, characterized by the snout of a horse, next to the equestrian statue of the Marquis Niccolo III and the Statue of Borso d’Este, who administrated Justice, the Torre della Vittoria, the Torre dell’ Arengo and the Clock tower.
In the afternoon we’ll visit Monselice, little walled city of the Venetian Region. We’ll visit the Castle of Monselice, a real treasure chest where ancient weapons, beautiful tapestries and marvellous furniture from all Italy are preserved. We will tell you the story of this fascinating place, we’ll come to know how its ancient inhabitants lived and we’ll admire the extraordinary gardens.
The family of the Carraresi from Padua, the Visconti from Milan, the Scaligeri from Verona and the Este from Ferrara are just some of the families and powerful Lords who tried to conquer the Castle and whom ghosts still haunt the rooms of the ancient manor house.
The visit continues to the Langobardic museum, the” Antiquarium longobardo”, where we’ll tell you the ancient story of the population of the Langobards, who invaded Monselice in the VIIth century. We’ll come to know something more of their lives thank to their grave goods who are very well preserved. We’ll see the little golden cross, the comb in animal bone and the typical weapons (spatha and scramasax).
We’ll walk up Via del Santuario, which is called the most beautiful panoramic promenade in the Venetian Region which, with its Villas and the seven Churches (who remind the seven Churches of Rome), is a unique beauty.
Panoramic points from which admire the city will not lack and you will have the possibility to admire the walled city.
Day 4 – Padua
A tour to the discovery of the real Padua! You’ll meet your Local Tour Leader in Padua who will take you around Padua as an insider. Discover the Padua made of hidden alleys, of breath taking views, of marvellous reflections in the canals of the city, and the poetical shadows of the medieval porticos. We’ll know how it is to live as a real insider, as a “padovano DOC”. Real Padouan people drink espresso in the historical Coffee Pedrocchi and have aperitif with” bianchetto” (still white wine usually on tap) under the “Salone” of the Palazzo della Ragione.
In the historical Coffee of the city, as the tradition tells “without doors” because once it was always open, day and night, from the inauguration in 1831 until the 1916. Here you’ll enjoy the delicious “Coffe Pedrocchi”: an espresso, served in a big cup with a delicious topping of cream with mint flavour and a sprinkle of cacao. The lovers of art, history and culture could visit also the Padua Baptistery, frescoed at the end of ‘300 by Giusto de’ Menabuoi, the popular Basilica of Saint Antony, the Palazzo della Ragione, The Bo Palace that is the most ancient building of the University of Padua, the second oldest University in Italy that is proud to have all the departments except architecture (the entrance tickets of the monuments listed are not included in the price). At the end you conclude with an unforgettable place, also symbol of the city: The Scrovegni Chapel that enchant the visitors with its frescos by Giotto and its vault that seem a starry night. In that époque Enrico Scrovegni called Giotto to decorate the small church near his majestic palace in the surrounding of the ancient Arena. With this work Giotto obtained global fame. After the visit of the Chapel don’t miss the Civic Museum of Padua: an art gallery with more of 500 paintings from the Collection of Emo Capodilista, archaeological sections, sculptures and all the other beautiful masterpieces preserved in this museum like the wooden Cross of Giotto and the angelic hosts of the court painters of the family Da Carrara, Guariento di Arpo.
Day 5 – Treviso
Departure towards Treviso in the early morning and visit of the city with the accompaniment of the Local Tour Leader. Treviso is the little Venice of the dry land: between the “Riviere”, the traditional market, the mills, and the ancient buildings: be enchanted of the city along Sile river! Have a walk from Ponte Dante, where you’ll see the waters of Sile River flow into those of Canale Cagnan, and continue towards Casa dei Carraresi and don’t miss the most romantic attraction of the city: The Canal of Buranelli.
Then we continue on the discovery of the Mark of Treviso, important for the production of wine: here we’ll have two tastings of wine in two different wineries. Prosecco, the venetian sparkling wine, famous around all the world, will be the main character of our wine tasting!
In the end, you’ll overnight in a 4* hotel in Treviso.
Day 6 – Soave and Verona
Departure towards Soave and then visit of the walled city and its Castle. The Castle, typical imposing medieval military fortification represents one of the most beautiful monuments of the Venetian Region. Surrounded by a marvellous panorama of nature, vineyards and the silence of the country it keeps inside is walls many history and secrets: feudal disputes, struggle between sections, barbaric invasions, supremacies and ruinous defeats…
We continue our experience with a wine tasting and then we continue towards Verona. Let yourself be enchanted by the city of love: Verona. Walking around the centre discover Castelvecchio and its bridge, the Arch of Gavi and the Corso Cavour. Continuing along the street, reach Piazza delle Erbe and cross the Costa Arch you’ll arrive in Piazza dei Signori. Don’t miss during this walk the beauties of the Scaligere Arches, the Juliet’s House and via Mazzini, the traditional shopping street that carry you directly in Piazza Bra, the main square where you could see the famous Arena of Verona.
Your ovenight stay will be today in the tranquil Soave.
Day 7 – Departure
Departure from Soave to the airport of Venice.
