A guided walk in Vicenza, the city of Andrea Palladio: a real open-air museum.
The golden age of Vicenza began in 1540, when the Venetian aristocracy decided to reorganize the city and its countryside and called for the arduous task Andrea di Pietro della Gondola, known as Palladio, one of the greatest architects of the time.
Palladio was commissioned to design the new residences owned by the Venetian nobles. During those years Vicenza was enriched with wonderful private palaces and public buildings while in the countryside extraordinary villas were designed.
The buildings designed by Palladio realize a continuous dialectic between ancient and modern and are recognizable for their elegance, balance, symmetry. With his works Palladio modifies the urban layout of the city of Vicenza and part of the surrounding landscape. He creates an original living interpretation of classical antiquity that will profoundly influence the urban planning and landscape of European countries and the entire world.
“The city of Vicenza and Palladio’s villas in the Veneto region” have therefore been nominated UNESCO Site for a total of 23 palaces in Vicenza and 24 villas in the surrounding area.
Not to be missed
The tour will start from the central Piazza dei Signori with its elegant monuments and we will take a walk around the city, including Corso Palladio, the main street of the city, up to Palazzo Chiericati, designed in 1550 for Girolamo Chiericati, also one of Andrea’s masterpieces Palladium. Embellished with frescoes and stuccos, the palace is enriched by one of the most prestigious European civic collections of paintings, sculptures and applied arts from the 13th to the 20th century.
We will not miss a visit to the Palladian Basilica, a masterpiece by Andrea Palladio (in case of closure we will visit the Church of Santa Corona, a splendid church founded by the Dominicans whose Gothic interior houses numerous important sculptural and pictorial works, including Giovanni Bellini’s masterpiece “The baptism of Christ”.)
Finally we will visit the Sanctuary of the Madonna di Monte Berico, and from the square in front you can admire a fantastic panorama of the city of Vicenza.

OPENING TIMES OF THE MONUMENTS: Some monuments are not always open. If you are interested in visiting a special monument, tell us in the moment of request of quotation. In case you don’t asked us, the agency cannot be retained as responsible.
TRANSFER SERVICES: The transfer service for the client, if done with the Minivan of the agency, is included as a transfer service for free and carried out for courtesy only in order to full fill the necessities of the tour. For fares purchased that include train tickets: In case of public transportation strikes please contact us for alternative arrangements or cancellations. In the absence of alternatives we will cancel and refund the tour in advance. The value of train tickets already purchased will be retained and will not be refunded.
WEATHER: The tour takes place even in case of bad weather. If the tour is cancelled it is to protect your safety. The tours to Venice take place even in case of high water.
