    Details

During the Bologna guided tour, you will walk through the most characteristic places of this capital city, starting from the Montagnola Park and continuing towards Via dell’Indipendenza, which connects the station to the historical centre, passing the Arena del Sole theatre and the San Pietro cathedral.

You will arrive at the Sala Borsa, a public cultural centre with a selection of books that will satisfy every reader, as well as collections, DVDs and records of all kinds, not to mention the unique glass floor that allows you to observe the underground excavations and archaeological finds from ancient civilisations dating back to the Villanovan civilisation, which arose in the 7th century BC.

Continuing the Bologna guided Tour along the main street you will be dazzled by the splendour of Piazza Maggiore, you will be greeted by the imposing statue of Neptune known as the Giant standing on a fountain and a splendid Basilica, the Basilica of San Petronio.

After a stop on the steps of the church, you can admire in front of you the Palazzo del Podestà, built in 1200 and serving as the base of the terracotta tower of the Arengo, whose bell was rung for the Bolognese on special or important occasions, and to your left the statue of San Petronio, the patron saint of the city.

You will continue your tour through the Mercato Antico, a market in the characteristic streets of the city centre, to arrive at the Torre degli Asinelli, on which by tradition it is forbidden to go up to students who have not yet graduated, if you are not a student, once you go up you will find yourself on the highest leaning tower in Italy, built for military purposes, with almost 500 steps and almost 100 metres high.

Your wonderful tour ends with a visit to the Piazza di Santo Stefano, where you can catch a glimpse of the typical merchant’s palaces, with their truly unique windows that make them recognisable, and also a palace famous for its frieze with terracotta heads. And of course the church itself, or rather, the Seven Churches. There are no longer seven, but originally the construction and work led to seven small churches attached to each other.

Dulcis in fundo (last but not least) you will see the oldest university in Europe, founded in 1088, the Alma Mater Studiorum, as a free and secular association of students, the university’s fame made Bologna a destination for illustrious guests and scholars. In its more than nine centuries of history, its students have included such notable figures as Dante Alighieri, Francesco Petrarca, Guido Guinizelli, Cecco d’Ascoli, Salimbene da Parma, Coluccio Salutati, Torquato Tasso and many others.
