This guided tour of Florence will take you on a discovery of the birthplace of the Renaissance, the city that gave birth to illustrious personalities in the artistic and literary field who influenced the whole world with their art, such as Leonardo da Vinci, Dante Alighieri, Giovanni Boccaccio and Michelangelo Buonarroti.
Your guided tour of Florence begins with a walk along the imposing Pitti Palace, one of the greatest architectural examples in Florence. The palace was built by the Pitti family in 1457 to a design by Filippo Brunelleschi and today houses some of the most important permanent exhibitions in the world.
Continuing on you will reach one of Florence’s most symbolic bridges, the Ponte Vecchio. Originally used by the Medici family as a corridor and secret passage from the Pitti Palace to Palazzo Vecchio. It is also known as the ‘Golden Bridge’ because of the numerous goldsmiths’ workshops that replaced the former butchers’ shops that were located here from 1593.
You will then reach an amazing place, the Uffizi Gallery. The three unified galleries are one of the most important museums in the world in terms of the quantity and quality of the works collected. It houses the largest existing collection of Raphael and Botticelli, as well as fundamental nuclei of works by Giotto, Titian, Veronese, Tintoretto, Pontormo, Bronzino, Caravaggio, Dürer, Rubens and others.
The guided tour of Florence continues with a visit to Piazza della Signoria, the seat of civil power, social and political life of the city, where you can admire Palazzo Vecchio, the Loggia dei Lanzi and the replica of the extraordinary statue of David sculpted by Michelangelo.
Continuing north you will reach the beating heart of the city, Piazza del Duomo. Dominated by the massive Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the square is also home to related buildings such as Giotto’s bell tower and the marvellous Baptistery of San Giovanni, which together with the Duomo can be considered the most important architectural works of the period between the Gothic and the Renaissance.
After stopping for a short lunch in the city centre, continue your walk to the Basilica di Santa Maria Novella, one of the most important Gothic-Renaissance churches in Tuscany.
Guaranteed departure with a minimum of 4 paying adults.
