within the Euganean Hills Regional Park, completely surrounded by the verdant panorama and the soft curves of the hills. This area was chosen by many Venetian patricians for the construction of their sumptuous Venetian Villas, an oasis of tranquility but at the same time an expression of the economic power of the owner. The Monumental Garden of Valsanzibio was designed in the 17th century by the architect and fountain maker Luigi Bernini, who created the most significant example of a symbolic garden of the 17th century. Here, in fact, water features, tree-lined avenues, fountains, the intricate labyrinth and the statues come together harmoniously in an allegorical journey of “Salvation” along which the visitor, passing through various stages, from the Portal of Diana to the Statue of Winged Time up at the fountain of the Dolphins, he is guided in the symbolic liberation from sins.
The second stop of the tour will be the Catajo castle, a precious gem, set in the Euganean Hills, in Battaglia Terme. The Villa, the ancient residence of the Obizzi family, dates back to the first half of the 16th century and is the result of a process of transformations, decorations and architectural expansions. The building stands out from the surrounding landscape, the Euganean Hills, thanks to its massive architecture which, rather than a villa, makes it appear like an ancient manor. Inside the villa it will be possible to see the splendid cycle of frescoes which recounts the exploits of the Obizzi family through the centuries, starting from the grandiose family tree.
