It’s a day designed to experience the real Veneto beyond Venice — through its landscapes, food, wine, history and local traditions.

From Abano, Montegrotto, and Padua, we’ll pick you up directly at your hotel; from Venice, we’ll arrange your train travel to the nearest station and then continue the journey by van.

The Euganean Hills: Discover a hidden side of Veneto

The Euganean Hills rise from the flat landscape of the Veneto just south of Padua. Their volcanic origins have created a unique landscape of rounded hills, vineyards and olive groves, surrounded by small historic towns and villages.

For centuries, the area has attracted poets, noble families, winemakers and travelers. Today, it remains one of the most authentic places to experience the food, wine and countryside of the Veneto without the crowds of the major tourist destinations.

The hills are particularly known for their wines, including Fior d’Arancio DOCG and Serprino, as well as for their extra virgin olive oil.

But there is much more to discover. Medieval villages, Renaissance villas, castles and monumental gardens are scattered throughout the hills, creating a landscape where history and nature are part of everyday life.

This experience brings all of these elements together in one day.

    The tour

Your day begins in Arquà Petrarca, one of the most beautiful medieval villages in the Euganean Hills. Walking through its historic streets, you’ll discover the village where Francesco Petrarca — better known in English as Petrarch — spent the final years of his life. You’ll visit the poet’s house and learn more about the connection between Petrarch and this beautiful corner of the Veneto. There will also be time to taste Brodo di Giuggiole, a traditional local liqueur made from jujubes and other fruits and spices.

From Arquà Petrarca, we’ll continue through the hills to a local olive mill. Here, you’ll discover how olives grown in the Euganean Hills are transformed into extra virgin olive oil and, of course, taste the finished product.

The next stop takes us into the vineyards. At a local winery, you’ll learn more about the wines of the Euganean Hills and taste four regional wines, accompanied by a relaxed light lunch featuring local bread and baked goods, cured meats and cheeses.

The final part of the day takes you into the historical side of the Euganean Hills. Depending on the date and opening hours, you’ll visit one of the area’s remarkable castles, villas or monumental gardens, such as Castello del Catajo, Monselice Castle, Villa dei Vescovi, Villa Selvatico or the monumental gardens of Valsanzibio. The exact site visited may vary according to availability.
