Wine tour in the Euganean Hills

Discover the wine country of the Euganean Hills, a beautiful volcanic landscape in the Veneto region, just south of Padua and within easy reach of Venice. Visit two family-run wineries, walk through the vineyards, explore the wine cellars and enjoy tastings of local wines paired with traditional regional products.

From Abano, Montegrotto, and Padua, we’ll pick you up directly at your hotel; from Venice, we’ll arrange your train travel to the nearest station and then continue the journey by van.

Just a few miles from Padua, the Euganean Hills rise from the Veneto plain as a group of volcanic hills, now protected as the Euganean Hills Regional Park. Their volcanic soils, mild climate and variety of elevations and exposures create ideal conditions for growing grapes. The result is a diverse wine production that includes white wines, red wines, sparkling wines and sweet wines, with several distinctive local appellations.

During the tour, you may discover local wines such as Serprino, Pinot Bianco, Garganega, Chardonnay and Manzoni Bianco, as well as red wines including Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Carménère. One of the area’s most distinctive wines is Fior d’Arancio dei Colli Euganei DOCG, a sweet and aromatic wine made from Moscato Giallo grapes. The Colli Euganei appellation also includes several DOC wines that reflect the variety of this unique volcanic terroir.

During the tour, you’ll visit two family-run wineries, where you’ll learn about their history, discover how their wines are produced and understand how the local landscape influences what ends up in your glass.

At the first winery, you’ll enjoy a tasting of 4 wines. At the second, you’ll taste another 4 wines, paired with local cured meats and cheeses.

📍 From Padua. Staying in Padua? We’ll take care of the transportation. We’ll pick you up directly at your hotel or B&B with our minivan, or at the nearest spot outside the restricted traffic zone (ZTL). At the end of the tour, we’ll take you back to your hotel. No cars, no parking, and no planning—just enjoy the tour.

🚆 From Venice. Staying in Venice? Join us by train. We’ll arrange your train trip from Venice to Terme Euganee station, and we’ll meet you there. At the end of the excursion, we’ll take you back to the station to catch your return train. You don’t have to worry about logistics—we’ll handle all the arrangements, and train tickets are included. Just make sure to provide us with a valid phone number with WhatsApp enabled for necessary communications!

🗺️ “Self-Guided” Option: This experience does not include transportation or a guide. It’s ideal if you have a car and want to get around on your own. After booking, we’ll send you the itinerary for your experience, including the addresses of the olive oil mill and winery.

  For departures from Abano Terme and Montegrotto, select: 9:00 a.m. or 2:45 p.m.
  For the meeting point in Padua, select: 8:30 or 2:10 PM.
  For departures from Venice, select: 7:50 AM or 1:40 PM.

• How long does the tour last? From Padua, Abano Terme and Montegrotto Terme, the tour lasts approximately 5 hours. From Venice, it lasts approximately 7–8 hours, including the train transfers.
• What do the wine tastings include? The experience includes a visit to a first winery with a tasting of 5 wines, followed by a visit to a second winery where you’ll taste local wines paired with cured meats and cheeses. The Euganean Hills produce a wide variety of wines, including Serprino, Pinot Bianco, Garganega, Chardonnay, Manzoni Bianco, Colli Euganei Rosso DOC, Merlot, Cabernet, Cabernet Franc, Carménère and, in some productions, Raboso. The wines selected for tasting vary depending on the wineries visited.
• Is transportation included? Yes. From Padua, Abano Terme and Montegrotto Terme, pickup and drop-off from your hotel are included. From Venice, train tickets and the subsequent minivan transfers are included.
• Does the tour run if it rains? Yes. The experience takes place even in rainy weather and is enjoyable in every season, including winter and particularly rainy periods. If the weather is poor, the vineyard walk may be shortened or modified depending on conditions, while all winery visits and tastings take place indoors as planned.
• Is the experience suitable if I’m not a wine expert? Absolutely. No previous wine knowledge is required. During the winery visits and tastings, the producers explain the local wine, the winemaking process and the characteristics of the wines in a simple and accessible way. The experience is also ideal if you’re discovering Italian wine for the first time and want to explore the flavors of the Euganean Hills without technical jargon. The relaxed, convivial atmosphere makes it easy to enjoy the experience together with your local host and the other participants.
• Will I have time to buy local products? Absolutely. We don’t rush the experience, so if you’d like to purchase something, you’ll have time to browse the wineries’ shops and take some local products home with you.

The tour escort, on the other hand, provides assistance and accompanies you to the most beautiful spots in the location chosen for your tour. TRANSFER SERVICE: The customer transfer service, when requested and if operated using the Agency’s own vehicles, is provided as a courtesy and is limited to the operational needs of conducting the tour. For packages that include train tickets: In the event of a public transportation strike, please contact us for alternative solutions or to cancel. If no alternatives are available, we will cancel the tour and issue a refund in advance. The cost of any train tickets already purchased will be retained and will not be refunded.
