The Prosecco Hills: a UNESCO wine region in Veneto

Between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, in the province of Treviso, lies one of the most distinctive wine landscapes in northern Italy. The Prosecco Hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene are shaped by centuries of vineyard cultivation and the work of local farmers and winemakers. Since 2019, this extraordinary cultural landscape has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is the home of Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG, Italy’s prestigious appellation for Prosecco produced in the historic hills around Conegliano and Valdobbiadene.

Rather than simply taking you from one winery to another, this experience is designed to introduce you to the landscape, villages, history, food, and people behind the wine.

    The tour

Your day begins by exploring some of the most beautiful and authentic places in the Treviso area.

Your first stop is the Molinetto della Croda, a historic water mill surrounded by greenery and built beside a picturesque waterfall. It is one of the area’s most distinctive landmarks and offers a glimpse into the rural landscape that has shaped the Prosecco Hills.

From here, continue to Follina, one of the most charming villages in the area, where you can admire the Abbey of Santa Maria, a former Cistercian abbey and an important piece of the region’s history. Then it’s time to discover the wine.

Visit a family-run winery and learn more about Prosecco, the local vineyards, and the winemaking tradition. Your wine tasting is accompanied by a selection of local cured meats, cheeses, and baked goods, which together serve as a light lunch. This is a relaxed, typically Italian way to enjoy the local food and wine together rather than a formal sit-down meal.

The tour then continues to a second winery, where you’ll enjoy another tasting and take in panoramic views of the surrounding vineyards and hills. You’ll raise a glass of Cartizze, one of the most prestigious and sought-after expressions of Prosecco from the Valdobbiadene area.
