The Euganean Hills: Discover a hidden side of Veneto

Just a short distance from Padua and Venice, the Euganean Hills are a beautiful landscape of volcanic hills, vineyards, olive groves, historic villages and elegant villas. Protected as a Regional Park, this area is one of the most rewarding destinations around Padua for travelers looking to combine nature, culture and authentic local food and wine.

Among the villages of the Euganean Hills, Arquà Petrarca holds a special place. The village is closely connected with Francesco Petrarca (en. Petrarch), the celebrated Italian poet who spent the final years of his life here. His former home is now one of the most important cultural attractions in the area.

Arquà has preserved its intimate, authentic character, with winding uphill streets, historic buildings and beautiful views across the surrounding hills.

The village is also known for its distinctive local food traditions, including extra virgin olive oil and jujubes — a small, naturally sweet fruit that features in several traditional recipes and products from the area.

    The tour

Your experience begins with a walk through the medieval village of Arquà Petrarca and a visit to Petrarch’s House, the historic home where the poet spent the final years of his life.

Inside the house, you’ll discover one of the places most closely connected with Petrarch and learn more about his life, his work and his relationship with the peaceful landscape of the Euganean Hills.

Next, we’ll stop at a historic local shop where you’ll taste Brodo di Giuggiole, a traditional sweet liqueur made with jujubes, the small fruit that has become one of Arquà Petrarca’s most distinctive local specialties.

Finally, we’ll visit a local olive mill. The producer will introduce you to the history of the family business, explain the main stages of olive oil production and guide you through a tasting of locally produced extra virgin olive oil.

    You’ll experience:
