Visit the medieval Arquà Petrarca village in the heart of the Euganean Hills. Arquà is one of the most beautiful villages in Italy and was the house of Francesco Petrarca (also known as Francis Petrarch), one of the first European humanists and most famous Italian poets of the early Renaissance. After visiting the Casa del Petrarca, the house of the humanist, you will be welcomed in a historic shop by a producer of preserves and liqueurs typical of the Euganean area, who will let you taste the famous Giuggiole broth. The last step of your trip will be a family-run oil mill, where you will have the chance to discover the secrets of extra virgin olive oil.
We will discover one of the most beautiful medieval villages in Italy.
Francesco Petrarca (also known as Francis Petrarch), one of the most famous Italian poets of the early Renaissance, made Arquà Petrarca his home. In this marvellous medieval village, we will visit his house, the Casa del Petrarca, and enjoy the view from his windows. We will be amazed by the beauty and sinuosity of the Euganean Hills, by which the poet was inspired.
This house is considered a pearl surrounded by this pretty medieval village, where the time seems to have stopped. Inside the rooms, we will admire the frescos of the 15th century dedicated to the life and work of Petrarch, which were commissioned by one of the subsequent owners, who all tried not to modify the house in order to keep the house as the poet left it.
As well as for literature enthusiasts, Arquà is also the perfect destination for food lovers, since it has been through the time a cradle of centuries-old food and wine tradition.
We will continue our experiential tour with the visit of a little traditional shop of Venetian delights: here we will taste the famous Brodo di Giuggiole (lit. Jujubes broth), Arquà Petrarca’s typical liquor, accompanied by the wise tales of the owner and producer.
Finally, we will visit a reknown olive oil mill, where the owners will teach us the secrets of the process of olive oil production and guide us in a tasting of the Extra Virgin Olive Oils of the Euganean Hills.
